Helen was born in McCook, Nebraska on February 8th, 1924, after which she lived in Wyoming, California and Alaska before coming to Washington State, where she married Harold Jones in 1946 and lived for a number of years in Seattle before moving “over the hill” to Selah in 1962.
In addition to being a homemaker with such hobbies as crocheting, knitting and tending to her beloved terraced gardens, Helen also took care of all the administrative duties for Hal's construction company from 1973 – 1985 and continued at his side for 62 years before his passing on in 2008.
She and Hal never sat still for long, being involved in such diverse activities as roller skate dancing, archery, raising show dogs, golfing, boating, four wheeling and traveling. Their love for travel was further enhanced by their time living in the Philippines, where they were able to take side trips to Hong Kong and Tokyo. In their later years, they joined the ranks of the “snow birds”, traveling south for the winter in their motor home.
Right to the end she kept everyone entertained with stories of her life, her family and adventures along the way. Helen will be missed by her surviving family, which spans four generations and several states, as well as her friends near and far.
As Helen was never a woman of great pretensions or fanfare, a short memorial service will be held at the Keith and Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel in Yakima at 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 6, 2016 for family and friends to pay their last respects.
Remembrances may be made to charity; her two favorite causes were the Union Gospel Mission and the Yakima Humane Society.
