Evelyn Jones, 94, of Union Gap went home to the Lord on May 11, 2024. Evelyn (or Eve/Evie as she was also known), was born January 30, 1930, in Wapato, WA to Verlie (Barr) and Clifford Davis. As a child, she loved spending time with her grandma and often got caught sneaking down the ditch toward her home. Growing up on a farm she enjoyed helping her dad make homemade brew, picking fruit in the orchard, gardening, and canning. She also liked playing sports.
Evelyn graduated from Wapato Highschool in 1948 and began working in the agricultural industry. She married Leroy Dorsett on February 12, 1949, and settled into their Union Gap home in 1951. In 1952, they welcomed their only child (Sherry).
Evelyn worked in several Yakima area fruit warehouses. After retiring in 1992, she embraced her creative side through a variety of crafts and began volunteering at both the Union Gap Senior Citizens Center and Central Assembly of God. She also enjoyed traveling the state with her church group. Her relationship with God and faith in Jesus Chris was a frequent source of comfort and strength. She loved gospel music, especially “In the garden” by C. Austin Miles, and dancing.
Evelyn leaves behind daughter Sherry (Terry) Orth, granddaughters Erin (Braden) Hamilton and Kristen (Zack) Hursh, and three great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by husband Junior Jones (1998) and former husband Leroy Dorsett (2007). A Graveside service will be held at 11am on Friday, May 24, 2024, at West Hills Memorial Park in Yakima. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Union Gospel Mission, an organization close to Evelyn’s heart, is appreciated.
