Dusty and I first met on the school bus in the early 1990s he was my neighbor and a friend. I wish I was able to keep in contact with him after high-school. I miss him, his smile and his laugh. We had a run on joke that if something was really funny it was an elbowslapper. Because he would always slap his knee while laughing if/when he thought something was really funny. One time I asked if he was ever so entertained that he slapped his elbow instead? He though it was funny and slapped his knee then started laughing and slapping his elbow. He has a great sense of humor and I miss him. The world is a lesser place now without him. 

I taught at YVCC and Dusty was my student in the Network Administration program. We became friends and we went on many adventures on the PNW coast. I lost touch with Dusty, and I'm now sorry. I will miss him.

I, too, was one of the lucky ones to have known Dusty.  He found his way to my office and my heart and has never left.  We had so many interesting conversations - he surely loved to talk about anything - medicine, politics, the family he loved, topics of today, - or you name it!  What a brilliant man!  He cared so much about others and loved to make them happy.  I am so grateful for the times Jen and I shared with him - going on picnics and to the movies, trying out new recipes, trying a new restaurant or going to an old familiar one.  He endured our teasing about his beard, too!  What a guy!!  I wish we could talk again, see his impish grin, hear his laughter, or share fun times together.  I will always remember how he encouraged and believed in Jen and cherish the memories of our friendship.  His time on earth was short, but I am so thankful Jen and I were part of that time.

It's so difficult to find words of comfort in the loss of a loved one.  Dusty was awesome in every way to me.  He was a very caring man - he cared about everyone and everything.  He was remarkable in every way - intelligent, funny, thoughtful, and giving.  He was so protective of me.  We shared a lot of happy times together.  Dusty looked beyond my disability and was always encouraging me.  My bad days weren't  so bad because he understood me.  He was my knight in shining armor here on earth.  Now I think of him every day as an angel that is guiding me from heaven.  So many things were left unsaid and undone.  Now it is up to me to carry on because I know that is what Dusty would have wanted me to do.  He had faith in me. I am so fortunate to have had Dusty in my life.  I am one of the lucky ones.  I will never forget his smile and laughter.  I love you Dusty.  :)

Dustin was a grade below me in high school but we hung out during our breaks and we would just talk about life and what we wanted to do and enjoyed spending time together.  We fell out of touch after high school but I will always remember the good times we had together just hanging out and being friends.  Too soon my friend.

Dusty, we will miss your infectious smile and being there for our Son Derek through the years, you were the true meaning of a friend. Dance with the Angels pain free. ^|^

I taught Dustin in 7th  grade science.  I remember him as a friendly, hard working young man.   More recently I've seen that big smile at the pharmacy y. I am saddened by his passing.  Thoughts and prayers with you and your family, Larry and Cindy.

I did not know Dustin Haas...I never had the pleasure of knowing this young man.  I was reading the Yakima Herald online and noticed Dustin's passing, as he is near my daughter's age.  (I am a Yakima native, former Yakima teacher, now residing in Southern California.)  The tribute for Dustin was beautiful.  This young man's written piece was so beautiful and touching.  Reading the many "Memories and Condolences"  in Dustin's Guest Book paint a picture  for me of such a special, unique, genuine young man.  I am sorry you all will no longer have this special fellow in your physical life.

Dustin was a student in several of my classes at Western Washington University. He was an absolute joy in the classroom. Notwithstanding his health challenges, in class discussions he was a fearless participant, who brought intelligence and wit to our examination of literary texts. Our one-on-one conversations in my office were equally rewarding, thanks to his good humor and insatiable appetite for learning. In my memories he will always be a bright light.

I just learned of his passing today.  I regret having not had the opportunity to come and meet him in person, we only knew each other online.  He was a kind and gentle soul there and he has been and will continue to be missed.

I was deeply saddened to hear that Dustin passed away.  I  was Dustin's professor at WWU and so enjoyed the many conversations we had about literature and writing over the years.  He had an exquisite and curious mind, a kind and likable personality, and a heart that knew no bounds.  I will miss him dearly.

Cindy, Larry and Colton. My heart goes out to you all. Dustin was a special person to me. He was always smiling and polite. I also loved when he would have an appointment. He will be greatly missed. One of a kind. I feel fortunate to have known him.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Haas family. I had the privilege of having Dusty as my student at Mountainview. He was a sweet, kind, and caring young man.  I'm so glad he invited me to lunch last summer and we had a chance to catch up.  I appreciated it at the time, but it means even more now. He will be missed.

I am so sorry for your loss, Larry, Cindy and Colton. Dusty was one of my favorite students. I have many fond memories of Dusty at Mountainview. He was a fine young man, I am so glad Marianne Nelson was able to spend some time with him this summer. You are all in my thoughts and prayers!

Words cannot express my heartache for you and your family ;'( Dusty was such a sweet, kind-hearted, funny, and smart young man). I always enjoyed when he would come into the pharmacy and at first he was shy, but, then he would start to talk....such an amazing soul!!!
