Doris Pauline Seals, of Yakima, Washington entered the gates of Heaven on May 15, 2018 after ninety-one exceptional years of living. She left this world peacefully at home with her family by her side. Pauline was a gentle woman with a sweet disposition who lived her life as her faith taught her, “love one another as I have loved you.” Her kindness and generosity were shown to friends and strangers alike. She was loved by many.
Pauline was born in Shoals, Indiana to Dewey and Marie (Canfield) Hawkins on October 8, 1926. She had three brothers, Floyd, Roy, and Alvin Hawkins, and one sister, Francis Hickman.
After graduating from Shoals High School in 1945, Pauline worked as a secretary until her marriage to Max Seals on February 23, 1946. Leaving friends and family behind, they traveled by car from Indiana to Washington state to begin a new life together. Settling in Yakima, she raised her five children, Rose, Fred, Rita, Betty, and Mike using love and faith as her guide.
Pauline loved to cook and bake. Her cookie jar was always full and she was famous for her delicious pies. She never met a recipe she didn’t want to try. Hers was the house where all the neighborhood kids gathered. She was a good friend, a great listener, and a selfless woman who was always understanding of the problems of others.
Pauline was an excellent storyteller. She entertained her children and grandchildren over the years with stories about growing up with her siblings in rural Indiana, her travels around the United States and abroad, and her day-to-day adventures around town.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and active in The Legion of Mary for many years. Later, she became a Eucharistic Minister to the Homebound. She loved her “people” whom she visited each week. This was a true calling for her and she made many friends through this ministry over the years.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and an infant grandson, Sean Hurley. She is survived by her children, Rose (Bob) Love, Fred Seals, Rita (Scott) Larson, Betty (Don) Vicena, and Mike Seals; her grandchildren Robert Love, Kirstie (Ray) Turowski, Dr. Kevin (Julia) Seals, Megan Hurley, Shea Hurley, Adam Simons, Sam Heilman, and Shelby Seals; and great grandchildren Alina and Leah Turowski. All of whom will miss her greatly.
A Prayer Vigil will be held at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, May 24, 2018 in the Chapel at Holy Family Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, May 25, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel. Private burial will be at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
