Chub was born in Yakima, WA on April 25, 1927, the son of Irvin “Chub” and Lilly Myers. He passed away on Friday, Oct. 8, 2010 at his residence. He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, two sons Herb and wife Karen and Mark. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kristen, Brian, Michael and Sean and his wife Shannon and three great-grandchildren, Cameron and Catrina Gordon and Virginia Grace Myers.
He grew up in the small town of Harrah, WA and was a veteran of World War II. Chub graduated from Wapato High School and attended CWCE where he graduated with a B.A. in education. He also attended the University of Washington for his 5th year and graduated Cum Laude from Seattle University with a M.A. in education administration.
He started his teaching career in his hometown of Harrah. He transferred to Sunnyside, WA where he taught for two years. He and the family then moved to Burien, WA where he was employed by the Highline School District. After three years of teaching at Sunset Jr. High, he was transferred to SeaHurst Jr. High as Assistant to the Principal and Head counselor. He then serviced as Principal of three schools that included Salmon Creek Elementary, Sunset Jr. High and Cascade Jr. High where he remained until his retirement.
He was honored as Administrator of the Year in the Highline School District and was runner up for the Administrator of the Year in the State of Washington.
After retirement, he and Barbara enjoyed traveling which include six cruises and many trips around the United States. As time passed, they enjoyed their trips to Reno, Las Vegas, Elko and Laughlin. I’m sure Nevada will miss him!
In addition to his life’s works in education, he belonged to the St. Francis of Assisi, Knights of Columbus in Burien, The Burien Elks, and the Yakima American Legion.
Memorials in his honor may be sent to the American Diabetes Association in care of Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home, 1010 W. Yakima Ave., Yakima, WA 98902.
A Vigil service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 Friday, October 15, 2010 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Concluding services and entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
