Barbara had a simple life to some but to her it was her life. She spent many days at her fathers barber shop that was on front street (Yakima), shining shoes for all the local customers. Being at that barber shop was a highlight back then, she met a lot of people over those years. She had a German shepherd and of course wherever she went, her dog was close by. The local police department knew her and her dog, and there was even a picture that was taken with them.
Barbara married Louis Hurst on May 6,1957 in Pasco, Wa but settled in Yakima where they built a life and raised 2 children, Lew and Vickie. A Lot of great memories were had during those years with dancing, camping and watching her husband manage 2 local bands.
We didn't know much over the years of her, except the few things she would tell us. Her life was always a mystery, but when we did learn something of her past and or of her family it was another piece to this puzzle that will never be complete.
Barbara was a simple house wife, she loved being home. Wasn't always one for trips, adventures, and or being outdoors. But if you got her to go somewhere, she truly did enjoy it. She had a love like no other for Elvis Presley, collected many items throughout the years and was able to see Graceland on Elvis's 20th anniversary! She was an animal lover like no other, she always owned an animal of some sort, from horses, cows, cats and of course dogs. Her husband would always frown because she was always bringing in another stray dog or cat, but over time all that grew on him. Her true joy in life was baseball, she was an avid watcher of the Seattle Mariners. As her son, and grandchildren became of age to play you would always find her watching them at the ball fields.
Barbara is survived by her son Lew Hurst, daughter Vickie Hurst, her grandchildren Natacia (Arthur) Sabala, Amanda Reed and Cody (Cary) Reed, her great grandchildren Nyssa, Angelica and Amerika Sabala, Remington Reed, Jaylen Reed, 2 step great grandchildren Ellie and Keagan Arnold and finally her first great great grandson Myles Garcia.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband Louis Hurst (57 yrs of marriage), her siblings Al, Frank, Leo, Theodore, Josephine and Virgina Jimenez.
Graveside services will be Dec 3rd at 1pm at Westhill Memory Park, following the graveside service we will be having a celebration of life at Langevin El Paraiso Funeral Home. Come enjoy food, drinks and share some stories of Barbara with everyone!
