Joy, as she preferred to be known, was always happy and helping people. Her family and pets were her world and there was nothing she wouldn’t do for them.
Joy was born in Yakima in 1932 to Roger and Cathryn (Morman) Lister, where she grew up with her sister Sharon.
They lived at the old Thesis Mill above Naches and then moved to Raymond, Dayville and John Day, Oregon, where their father was lost in a tragic logging accident.
They then moved back to Yakima where her mom married Dutch Altdorfer several years later.
Joy moved to Port Townsend where she married Stan Guthrie. They came back to Yakima where she had 2 sons: Randy and Rick. They later moved to Forks and Port Angeles where the boys completed their education.
They divorced in 1968 and she moved to Olympia for many years and then to Longview for 10 years before returning to Yakima 3 years ago. She always had a job as a waitress that she loved doing and meeting people.
Joy is survived by her 2 sons, Randy Guthrie and Rick Guthrie, and her sister Sharon Lucas; her grandchildren Paul Guthrie and Alyse Smith; her great-grandchildren Brady Petty, Alexis Guthrie, Kate Guthrie, PJ Guthrie, Ciarrah Guthrie, Brian Peterson, Branden Guthrie, Michael Oldright, and Talia Ard; great-great-grandchildren Levi Smith, Ellie Guthrie, David Guthrie and Jenna Guthrie, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother Cathryn Altdorfer, father Roger Lister, stepfather “Dutch” Altdorfer, and husband Stan Guthrie.
Private services will be held at a later date.
