Thomas Franklin Moody, Jr., age 92, passed away on September 22, 2024. He was the youngest of four children born to Thomas Moody, Sr. and Patricia Harriett Tolley on December 15, 1932, in Dayton, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Louis, sisters Mary, Edna, and Virginia, and his wife Mary. Tom proudly served in the US Navy during the Korean War. After his military service, Tom started his career as a fire fighter in 1959 at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. On September 12, 1959, he married Mary Fitzwater, his wife of sixty-five years. Tom and Mary built a home and raised a family in New Carlisle, Ohio. He took great pride in his lawn and was always willing to help a neighbor. The family took annual car trips all over the United States and Tom retired as fire chief of Wright Patterson in 1984. He was a mason and lifelong member of the New Carlisle Lodge (#100). He stayed busy after retirement as volunteer fire chief for the New Carlisle fire department and a delivery driver for Clark’s Sheet Metal.
Tom will be greatly missed and is survived by his daughter Rebecca (Matthew) Shuter. There will be a private remembrance service. The family requests that those wishing to make contributions in Tom’s memory do so to the Dementia Society of America at https://www.dementiasociety.org/donate
