Paul F. Keaveney, age 85, died on December 5, 2023. Paul was born in Boston, Massachusetts to the late John J. and Gertrude A. (Brenn) Keaveney on September 22, 1938. Paul was predeceased by his parents and his son Brian E., and former wife, Marcia A. Verhoff. He is survived by his sons Sean M. and Scott A. Keaveney, sister Ellen R. Evans of Connecticut, brother George S. Keaveney of Georgia, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and the best of friends.
Paul grew up in suburban Brookline where he attended Saint Mary of the Assumption grammar and high schools. He received BS and MS degrees from Boston College, and completed a year of further graduate studies at Michigan State University. Paul taught High School chemistry, and was a chemistry laboratory instructor at the University of Massachusetts Boston. He worked for 35 years at Chemical Abstracts Service, a division of the American Chemical Society, in Columbus, Ohio.
In retirement, Paul volunteered as a math tutor for elementary school students, and as a hospital volunteer at Ohio Health Riverside Methodist Hospital. Paul was an avid learner, reader, and traveler. He visited 45 countries on six continents. He was a longtime member of Dignity USA, an organization of LGBTQ Catholics and their families and friends. Paul was also a lifetime member of American Mensa. He was a member of Simply Catholic, a small intentional Eucharistic community. Paul loved language and provided proofreading and editing for Dignity USA and two authors.
There will be a celebration of Paul’s life at 11am on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at Schoedinger Worthington Funeral and Cremation Service, 6699 N. High St., Worthington, OH 43085.
