Laura Kathleen English, age 39, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, September 27, 2023 in her home after a brief illness. She was born December 15, 1983 in South Korea. Laura is survived by her mother, Kathleen Cadmus and stepfather, Kevin Cadmus; her father, W. Phillip English and stepmother, Charlene English; birth parents Hyeja Kim and Myeong-Suk Jung; brothers W. Peter (Jacqueline) English, Ryan (Allison) English, and Scott Cremeans; sisters Elizabeth (Matija) Zitko, Tina (Chris) Witczak, EunKyung Jung, and EunSun Jung; nieces Mary, Jane, Ace, Maya, and Jenny; nephews: Shawn, Arlo, Dominik, and George, fur babies; Billy and Blue, along with many other dear family and friends. She is preceded in death by brother, Shawn English, cousin Nicholas Hoaja, maternal grandparents, Edward (Adaline) Landshof, paternal grandparents William (Wilda) English, and Laura’s Korean paternal grandmother. Laura had a natural born love for music and words, both written and spoken. She was petite. So petite that she never outgrew her ¾-sized violin she played during grade school and high school. But her larger-than-life personality and absolute fearlessness more than made up for her lack of stature. Laura loved life and took her own circuitous path to earn her GED, her associate, then her bachelor’s degree. In 2019, Laura earned her MFA in Creative Writing from Ashland University - the culmination of a lifelong love of the written word. Laura has worked with school and middle-aged children in teaching English as a second language in Korea and in writing classes at Thurber House in Columbus. The name given to Laura at birth was SunKyung. Meaning, to be bright and good natured. Like the sun. She has been light and joy to so many. A kind, funny, energetic being with an overabundance of empathy and love. The world will grieve for Laura Kathleen. Yet, there is an indescribable part of her that is eternal.
