On July 23, 2024, Kenneth “Ken” Lee Short, age 72, of Newark, OH passed away peacefully at the James Cancer Center in Columbus, OH. He is survived by his loving family including his wife, Marsha (Russell) Short; daughter, Danielle Short; son, Brandon Short; sister, Judith (David) Beavers; sister-in-law, Elise Person; brothers-in-law, Donald (Anne) Russell and Ralph (Becky) Russell; five nieces, two nephews and his loving granddog Jacob; and numerous extended family and close family friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Jessie Short and parents in-law Donald and Margaret Russell.
Ken spent the majority of his childhood in Circleville, OH and graduated from Logan Elm High School. He relocated to Columbus, OH where he met and married his wife and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors in Accounting from Franklin University.
Ken enjoyed a long and successful career in accounting, retiring from Defense Finance and Accounting Service in January 2018, but what he really relished was spending time with his family and friends. Ken and Marsha enjoyed weekend shopping adventures and yearly trips to the beach. As a loving father, Ken found immense joy in coaching his son’s little league baseball and basketball teams. He was an avid golfer and sports fan, always loyal to the Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Browns, and managing his fantasy sports teams. He was well known for his quirky sense of humor and willingness to share a funny “dad joke”.
Ken was a deeply spiritual person and regularly attended Spring Hills Baptist Church in Granville, OH.
He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Spring Hills Baptist Church, Granville, OH or James Cancer Center at The Ohio State University.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 10am until 1pm, at the Schoedinger Worthington funeral home, 6699 North High St., Worthington OH, 43085. A Funeral Service will follow at 1pm.
