Two 9th graders at Buchtel in Akron Ohio had their first date at the Snowflake Frolic on Valentine’s Day, and on February 14, 2024 they were reunited as Dr. John Norval died peacefully at his home in Columbus Ohio. John was born 12/10/1929 in Akron,Ohio, the son of Gladys and Dr. Howard Norval and brother to Thomas(Florence) and Benjamin (Patricia) Norval. He followed his father into dentistry, beginning his studies at the University of Akron and eventually taking over the practice on West Market St. following graduation from the Ohio State University School of Dentistry. John and Mary were married August 23, 1952, and after their graduations from Ohio State John served in the US Army, stationed at Fort Hustis, Virginia where their first child, Susan, was born. years, Mary Firestone Norval, daughter Susan Norval, and his parents, brothers and sister-in-law
Patty Norval, he leaves son Greg ((Karen) Norval, daughter Nancy (Doug) Hannum, grandchildren Kurt (Brenna)Norval, Ford Hannum, Kalleigh (Rory Mackay) Norval, Mackenzie (Mitchell Krieger) Hannum, Kasey (Tyler Dunmyer), and first great grandchild Maverick James Norval, as well as a large extended family and countless friends. John loved golf, was part of The Diamond Grille Golf league and served as president of Fairlawn Country Club. He was also a past president of the Akron Dental Society, and was always active in his churches, Westminster Presbyterian and New Covenant Community Church in Akron,serving as an ordained Elder, singing in the choir and many other aspects of church life, all of which brought John and Mary a wealth of lifelong friendships. The family extends their thanks to the caregivers
at The Bristol, Columbus, and Vitas Hospice for their kindness during his final days. Family services will be held at a later date this summer.
