Dr. Reed passed away on August 8, 2024 at 10:26am. Born in 1934 in suburban Pittsburgh, Pa, she was the daughter of Wilbur and Edith Reed. She is survived by her sister, Corinne (George) Wilson; her nephew, David (Kelly) Wilson; six out- of- state cousins; and her lifelong friend, Mary Ann Wuyscik of Apollo, Pa .
Fay Carol moved to Columbus in 1961 and earned her doctorate at The Ohio State University, having completed requirements previously for Bachelors and Masters degrees at the University of Pittsburgh. She was elected to Pi Lambda Theta (education honorary) and Sigma Theta Tau (nursing honorary). Dr. Reed’s career was that of nurse educator, clinician, and University dean. She held academic positions at the University of Pittsburgh, Case Western Reserve University, the University of Cincinnati and was selected in 1973 to be Distinguished Visiting Professor at California State University, San Diego. She was the founding Dean of the Riverside School of Nursing at Ohio Wesleyan University, a position she held for two decades. Fay Carol was the author of academic papers, professional journal articles, and a book—Suffering: The Hidden Dimension of Illness. She was a supporter of the Hillsdale College Liberty and Learning Society and a long-time patron of The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, Patriarch Fellowship (Abraham member).
Viewing will be on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at Schoedinger Funeral Service, 6699 N. High Street, Worthington from 11a.m. to 12p.m followed by a 12p.m. service with Pastor Louise (Lou) R. Seipel of the Worthington United Methodist Church officiating.
