David DeWitt Simmons, 77, of Columbus, passed away on August 11, 2024. He was born on August 11, 1947, in Columbus Ohio, to the late John “Jack” and Elaine (Atkinson) Simmons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lou Alexander.
David graduated from Franklin University with a Bachelor’s degree in Business. Throughout his career he worked for the state of Ohio as an Assistant to the Auditor. Following retirement from the state, David continued to care for his mother until her passing.
In his free time, David loved Ohio State Football and would never miss a game. Above all he loved his family and to spend time with them and go out to dinner at Villa Nova Restaurant. In his earlier years, David enjoyed spending time with his niece and nephew, taking them to the Ohio State Fair, fishing on the Olentangy River, going on walks, and spending time in parks throughout the Columbus area.
David will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews, Jennie (Andy) Howell, John (Dyna) Dailey, and Robbie (Polly) Huggins; great nieces and nephews, Dylan (Mollie) Howell, Krista (Travis) Parker, Shelby (Tyler) Townsend, and Curtis and Patrick Dailey; great-great nieces and nephews, Thomas, Noah, and Aubrey; brother-in-law, Walter Dailey; and numerous cousins, extended family, and close family friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024, from 11am until 12pm, where a Funeral will follow at 12pm, at the Schoedinger Worthington Funeral Home, 6699 North High, Worthington OH, 43085. He will be laid to eternal rest at Sunset Cemetery next to his dear sister, mother and father.
