Elizabeth (Betty) McMullen Abrams-Evans passed away on August 20, 2024 at the Dublin Glenn Memory Care in Dublin, Ohio. She was born on February 1, 1938 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Betty will be deeply missed by her devoted husband, Carl Evans; children Lisa Abrams (Jan) Neiger and Kathy Abrams Anderson (Craig) Heath; grandchildren Luke Neiger, Evan Anderson, and Brandon Heath; brother Robert Jr. (Joy); sisters Kathy (Lynn) Foell and Sharon (Daniel) Orlet; brother-in-law Jerry Hayes; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert S. and Ruth (Berry) McMullen, brother Richard, sister Marcia Hayes, and sister-in-law Sunny McMullen.
She graduated from St. Joseph Academy High School in Columbus, Ohio in 1956 and The Ohio State University in 1961. She worked as a Research Analyst at Battelle Memorial Institute, was a teacher and coach at Bishop Ready High School, and retired from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio after 25 years as a Financial Analyst.
Betty was a Duplicate Bridge Life Master and met Carl at the bridge table. They were married September 1, 1984 at the Dawes Arboretum in Newark, Ohio. Carl likes to say they were happily married for 39.9 years.
Betty was a 30-year member of The Ohio State University (OSU) Golf Club with two holes-in-one and many birdie pins from the Women’s group. She was an avid quilter and volunteered for the Stitching Sisters of Ohio. Betty loved gardening and had an extensive Hosta collection. She volunteered many years for the OSU Chadwick Arboretum. She enjoyed photography taking photos of family, flowers, and insects. She loved OSU football, butterflies, grandsons’ baseball games, and the color green. She also loved shopping with her mother and her daughters. Betty did not like cold weather, so she and Carl purchased a condo in Florida to escape the Ohio cold with several week long vacations during the winter. When Carl retired, they bought a house in DeBary and became Florida snowbirds. Betty loved being warm, playing golf, and entertaining family and friends from up north
