Art was a renaissance man in every sense. He was proud of his Italian American Heritage and that his family came to live the American Dream. His grandfather and namesake, Salvatore Cafarelli came to the US through Ellis Island and was bricklayer for the City of Syracuse. Art’s parents met in Missouri, while Robert A. Cafarelli was a sergeant in the Army. Elma Jean, from Aurora Missouri, moved to Syracuse, and always held on to her country roots. She was a strong woman of great faith who enjoyed travel and dancing. Arthur was born on 10/31/45 while his father was stationed overseas for the US Army. Art and his brother Rob would often spend summers in Aurora (the Ozarks) with their grandparents. Art maintained this tradition and made sure that his family came out to visit Vada and Cyril to make sure the family understood where they came from.
Arthur, like his father before him, was a gifted athlete. He played a variety of sports including baseball, basketball, football etc. He was a music and car enthusiast. He enjoyed music from the 5th dimension, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Motown, classic country, rock etc.
The love of Art's life, was his wife, Patricia Cafarelli. Lifelong sweethearts, they married in September of 1972. Art enjoyed a successful, 40+ year career in sales as a representative and manager for distributors/manufacturers of various electrical components moving their family from Syracuse, NY, to Columbus, OH in 1986. Patricia retired from Dublin City Schools after 25+ years of service in 2018.
Art was a proud American and an educated man. A NY state regent scholar recipient, Art received his bachelors degree in English from Morehead State University. Art was treasurer for the VFW in Hilliard, OH and was a proud supporter of local veterans' charities. He was thoughtful, wise, kind-hearted, soft-spoken and a rock solid man. He helped many and saw the best in others. Rest in Peace
A Memorial Service celebrating Art’s life will be held at 2:30pm Friday, March 1, 2024. The family will receive friends following the service until 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations in his memory to Wounded Warrior Project.
