John Humphrey Cobb, Jr. of Roswell passed away Wed., Oct. 31, 2012. Preceded in death by parents John and Frances Cobb of Cartersville, he is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Dorothy Anne. Other survivors are his sister Fran Shumaker (Tim) of Loganville and brother Doug Cobb (Donna) of Cartersville; He was well loved by his step-children, Cindy (Bryan) Morrow of King’s Mtn, NC, Daryn (Lisa) Howard of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Jeremy (Robin) Bridges of Woodstock and Kim Howard of Roswell. There are several nieces and nephews as well as grandchildren.
Celebration of life services will be held Monday, November 5, 2012 at Woodstock Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Pope officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 in Georgia National Cemetery with Woodstock Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held Sunday, November 4, 2012 from 2-4 P.M. at the funeral home.
John was a retired career Navy Chief Petty Officer. He served duty aboard the USS Shenandoah and the USS Hunley as well as shore duty in Iceland, Spain, and Virginia Beach.
A man of many interests, John served as Commander of the Roswell Chapter Sons of Confederate Veterans. He loved shortwave radio, history, rocks and minerals, dirigibles, stamps and coins and astronomy. He and Anne traveled many times to her native England.
John was a kind and loving husband, brother, step-father and friend. He will be missed by many.
