Jim is survived by his daughter Stacy Murphy Peters, son-in-law Tom Peters, grandchildren Erin Murphy Peters, Kelly Ann Peters, Benjamin Lucas Peters and nephew Dan Murphy. He is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, June Ann Murphy, his daughter Judy Ann Murphy Weatherford, and his brother John “Jack” Marriott Murphy.
Jim Murphy was born on August 13, 1929 in Greeley, Colorado to John Milburn Murphy and Irene Idell Marriott Murphy. He graduated from the University of Denver in 1952 with a degree in Psychology. He served in the United States Army in the Counter Intelligence Corps. He was trained in Fort Holabird, Maryland as an Investigator, and stationed in Oberammergau, Germany from November 1952 to October 1954. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for Good Conduct.
He married June Ann Willis, on June 2, 1956 in Orleans Parish, New Orleans, Louisiana. After moving to Houston, Texas he began working for Ford Motor Company. His career spanned 30 years, and included 11 transfers to 7 states. Jim and June Ann had 2 daughters and 3 grandchildren. His daughter Stacy remembers him as a dedicated, loyal, and loving father who devoted his life to his family and career.
Jim spent countless hours researching his family history and genealogy. He was an intelligent man who loved history and politics, and who was passionate about the Wounded Warrior Project and the National MPS Society. He was an avid reader and letter writer.
A celebration of his life with June Ann Willis Murphy will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee later this year.
