Gerald John Sanders

Gerald John Sanders, at age 74, of Acworth, Georgia, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2017. Gerald was born on January 3, 1943 to John and Estelle Sanders. He married Irene Sanders in 1967 and they spent 50 wonderful years together. He enjoyed spending his time watching golf and car racing. He retired honorably from the United States Army as a colonel, serving in various positions throughout his career of 40 years in the military.

He is preceded in death by his parents John and Estelle Sanders.

Gerald is survived by wife, Irene Sanders; sons, Alan (Susan) Sanders, Daniel (Alicia) Sanders, Philip (Kristin) Sanders, and Patrick Sanders; grandchildren, Ashton Sanders, Lexie Delmonico, Elena Sanders and Sophie Delmonico; Alexandra Sanders; and, Hayden Sanders; brother, John (Christine) Sanders; sister, Judy (Al) Rockwell.

A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 10:00a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 87 Lacy Street, Marietta, Georgia, 30060. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 6, 2017 from 5:00-9:00p.m. at Woodstock Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gerald’s honor to St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Interment will be at Georgia National Cemetery on Friday, March 10, 2017 at 12:00pm. The family will depart from Woodstock Funeral Home at 11:00am.
