After 73 years in the earthly realm, Juliet “Jet” Sicat Capili passed away unexpectedly on December 5, 2022, and will be reunited with her loving husband of nearly 47 years, Deogracias “Ding” Capili who passed away nearly 18 months earlier on March 30, 2021.
As the youngest child of Eloy and Flora Sicat, young Juliet was a happy, precocious sibling, interacting and playing with her seven older siblings. They regarded her as the “secret agent,” who was keen beyond her years, sometimes sharing observations of her siblings in action in unexpected ways. On the playground, she was the natural leader — deciding the games and roles she and her other friends would play, influencing the leadership path she carved into adulthood.
In the early 1970s, after a brief period of living with her sisters who built roots in Northern California, Juliet was determined to build her adult life in New York City. With Flora by her side, Juliet made inroads, building lifelong friendships and meeting at a party the man who would eventually become her husband of nearly a half century, Ding.
Going into the 1980s, Jet and Ding built their roots in the “Woodhaven house,” expanding their family with three children and many pets (mostly dogs), with lots of relatives, United Nations’ expatriates (where Juliet was employed for most of her career), and friends visiting Jet for her camaraderie, comfort and a delicious home-cooked meal. Jet’s family also expanded exponentially with many friends-through-faith through the Santo Nino Ilaw Devotion Prayer Group she founded. Jet’s natural leadership allowed for many opportunities to collaborate with other devotional catholic prayer groups in New York City and beyond, organically becoming part of the family.
Through it all, Jet’s love of family, faith, food, friends and fun resulted in many deep, long-lasting relationships (many of whom considered Jet as their best friend). She is survived by her siblings – Gerardo, Gloria, Celia, and Ester (her other siblings she will be joining are Cora, Ligaya, and Romy); her clan of Js – her children Jason, Judy, and Joel; spouses Juan and Jamie; and her grandchildren Jiselle, Julian, Joel “JD” Duncan, and Jace; and, many other colleagues, family, and friends who are grateful that their paths crossed with Juliet.
