Age 84, of Clermont, FL passed away on Friday, August 9, 2019. Roger is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Eileen Hellerud; parents, Gerhardt and Alpha Hellerud; siblings, Richard Hellerud, Shirley (Gale) Nelson, and Sandra Engelking; and brother in-law, Gerald Hilleshiem.
Roger grew up in Rochester MN graduating from Rochester High School in 1953. He attended the University of Minnesota before joining the U.S. Army and serving from 1954 – 1956 near Mainz Germany.
He enjoyed a successful 35-year career with JCPenney managing stores in LaCrosse, Beloit, Kenosha, and Rhinelander, Wisconsin; Chicago, Illinois; Ely, Minnesota and retiring from his Mason City, Iowa store in 1990.
During his retirement he especially relished quality time with his grandchildren in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Florida. He was also able to travel extensively throughout the United States.
Throughout his life he was an avid horseman. He owned three horses including a hackney pony that he showed frequently during the 1970’s. He loved playing cards with family and friends. Anyone who played with him knew that he inevitably held a mittful of wild cards. He often won and always was a good sport.
Roger was a true gentleman and will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
Roger is survived by his loving partner, Betty Halverson; children, Michael Hellerud, Dawn Okite, and Mary (James Lundberg) Hellerud; grandchildren, Melissa (Jake), Brian, Anna, David, and Daniel; great-granddaughter, Kennedy; siblings, Gordon (Marilyn) Hellerud, Gloria Hellerud, and David (Sara) Hellerud; in-laws, Mary and Jim Christie, Sharon Maahs and Irene Hilleshiem; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Memorial Service to be held Tuesday, August 13th at 12 PM with visitation one hour prior at Wulff Woodbury Funeral Home 2195 Woodlane Dr, Woodbury.
