She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Merritt; her children, Andrew Marquardt (Joyce), Lisa Murphy (John) and Amy Elmer (Greg); her grandchildren Nicole Kimbrell (Quincy), Sarah Marquardt, Michelle Peters (Joe), Tom Murphy (Hannah), Josh Elmer (Abby), and Emily Elmer; and her three great-grandchildren, Ellie and Grace Peters and James Murphy.
Betty was born in Highland, Wisconsin on May 10, 1934, and was lovingly raised by her parents Ruth and Dudley Marfell. She graduated from Wausau HS, class of 1952. She then went on to earn a degree in Education from University of Wisconsin – Madison, class of 1956.
Throughout her life, Betty was known for her quick smile and positive energy. She made friends easily everywhere she went, many of them becoming life-long friendships. She carried these traits with her in her numerous volunteer positions with Cub Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, the Bay Lake Association, and in her positions with the Lutheran Synod and Augsburg College.
Betty was an enthusiastic gardener, ensuring the patio pots were full of fresh flowers each spring at the house and lake cabin. She also loved to sew, frequently gifting her family with her original creations. Betty was also a superb cook. Whether inviting her children’s grade-school teachers over for dinner or 3M executives from Merritt’s work, she prepared meals beyond compare. She will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Bay Lake Improvement Association (https://baylake.com/make-your-secure-payment/) or to King of Kings Lutheran Church, Woodbury, MN (https://pushpay.com/g/kingofkingslutheranchurch).
A Celebration of Life for Betty will be held Monday, December 9, 2024 at 11:00 AM with Visitation one hour prior to service, from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 1583 Radio Drive, Woodbury, MN 55125.
