Janet was born May 11, 1927 on the Romanow family farm, four miles east of Montmartre. She attended Fallowmead School. On October 24, 1950 Janet and Arthur were married at Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church. After her first child Julie was born, Janet spent thirteen months in Fort San when she was diagnosed with tuberculosis. After overcoming TB, Janet and Arthur farmed and raised their family together in the Candiac District. Janet carried on her matriarch family duties and resided on the family farm until her passing. Her strength, resiliency, faith and strong-will sustained her through many challenges such as the Great Depression, WWII, lack of modern conveniences and most recently, the pandemic. Her motherly skills and interests throughout her lifetime included gardening, preserving fruits and vegetables, cooking tasteful meals, crocheting, reading, singing, dancing, sharing her love of family and community history, and having a keen interest in global events. She was one of the members who compiled information for the Candiac History Book in 2009. Janet was a dedicated and humble parishioner who served St. Joseph Parish for decades. The legacy that Janet leaves behind to her loving family and friends, is her faith in God, her strength of character, her generosity, kindness and a sense of peace that she bestowed on others. “A Life Well Lived” May her soul rest in peace and her memory be eternal.
