He was born July 24, 1943 in Wolcott and was the son of the late Henry and Hedwig “Hattie” (Laskarzewski) Lewandosky.
Tom leaves a lifelong legacy of his passions, family, retirement and collecting, restoring, and riding motorcycles. In his mid-teens, he bought his first bike, a 1957 Harley Sportster. He maintained and restored this motorcycle with such care that it was loaned to the Harley Davidson Museum for display.
He loved the freedom of retirement. He lived out “Every day’s a Saturday” putting thousands of miles on his collection of classically restored Harley Davidson motorcycles as evidenced by the abundance of trophies and plaques that filled the home that he, his father Henry and his brother Paul built growing up in Wolcott.
Prior to retirement, Tom worked as a mechanic in several dealerships and as an emissions inspector for the State of CT. His ability to diagnose what was wrong with any piece of mechanical equipment was extraordinary, even over the phone.
Raising his family in Waterbury and Wolcott, he spent many weekends camping with the NCHA camping group The Happy Wanderers or the Champion group.
He was always ready to tell you a story about one of his adventures growing up, camping, and riding. He loved to explore the highways and back roads riding motorcycles. He always seemed to come back from these rides with friends he met along the way. He could usually be found with his best friend and brother Paul or close friends Jake, Kenny and Peggy, Fingers, Dennis, Steve, Pete and so many more. He made friends everywhere he went. The wisdom he shared always came with a twinkle in his eye: “they didn’t learn it from stones” “work is a 4-letter word, like wife”
Family was a vital part of Tom’s life. In recent years, he became a great-grandfather to his best-birthday-buddy Finn who shared his July 24th birthday. Tommy lived life on his own terms, right up to the end.
He is survived by his daughters, Ann (Jerry) Livernois, Laura (Ron Roy) Plourde and Linda Lewandosky; two grandchildren, Sarah (Chris) Penny, Benjamin Livernois and great-grandson Finnegan Penny; a sister, Janice (Robert) Dwyer; nieces, Marie “Missy” (John) Stary and Erin Dwyer; nephews, Bryan Lewandosky and Bob Dwyer and many great-nieces, great-nephews and his former wife, Eleanor (Dutkiewicz) Lewandosky. He also leaves Davey (Amanda) Swanson, Amy Swanson, Jonathon Silva, Ava Silva who were a part of his family. He was predeceased by his brother and best friend Paul Lewandosky
