Cornelius Manning Jr.

Born in Bennettsville, SC, on October 2, 1938, he was the son of the late Cornelius and Mamie (Cohen) Manning Sr. His family moved to Waterbury, where he was educated in local schools. He was a 1957 graduate of Leavenworth High School. He retired from the CT Department of Corrections and was also employed at New Departure in Bristol for several years. For many years, Sonny was the owner of Shallett-Lux Laundry on Walnut St. in Waterbury. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and had resided in Wolcott since 1965. He was the past vice president of the Grove Beach Association on Hitchcock Lake and enjoyed spending time with his friends at the HD Club on Grove Ave.

Besides his devoted wife of 60+ years, he leaves behind to cherish his memory two grandchildren, Ashley Manning Zebrowski (David) of West Orange, NJ, and Brandon Manning of Meriden, CT, along with his great-grandchildren, David and Luke Zebrowski. He is also survived by his brothers, Mark (Nivia) Manning of Wolcott, Robert and Michael (MaryAnn) Manning, all of Waterbury; sisters Edith (Fred) Mack of Long Island, NY, Thelma (Richard) Sims, Kathy Washington, Tina (Robert) Harrison, all of Charlotte, NC, and Melody McNeal of California, as well as several generations of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark A. Manning of Brooklyn, NY, and his brothers Neal, James, John, and Joseph Manning.
