Rosemary Salario Oshea

Rosemary O’Shea, 77, of Goldenrod, FL, passed away on April 25, 2024 after a progressive battle with cancer. She was born Rosemary Salario on June 12, 1946 in Tampa, Florida. She is survived by cousins, Brad Carlson (Marcy), Cecilie Housewright, Shawn Gilmartin (Gina), William Gilmartin (Catherine), Cassie Oden (Carl), Craig Carlson and Hal Carlson, her goddaughter, Courtney Housewright (Chris), and many first cousins once removed. She was preceded in death by her dear mother Yarda Rusterholz. Rosemary graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree and a Master of Education degree from the University of Florida, both with majors in English Literature. Before graduating, she completed internships at The University of Florida and Terry Parker High School in Jacksonville, Florida. She also worked as a graduate assistant at The University of Florida, a research Assistant for Brevard County Schools, a Summer Day School Instructor and Recreation Director for Mr. Barney’s School in Orlando and interned with the Florida Senate. Rosemary’s passion for teaching and mentoring students and young lawyers was evident throughout her entire career. She worked as a teacher for a total of eight years at North Marion High School in Sparr, Florida, Seminole High School in Sanford and Lake Howell in Winter Park. Upon divorce from her husband, John, she attended Florida State University College of Law where she obtained a Juris Doctor degree with honors. She then attended Harvard University College of Law where she obtained a Master of Law degree. Rosemary joined her beloved law firm, BakerHostetler, in 1982 and became a partner in 1991. Demonstrating expertise and engagement in the diverse practice areas of real estate and labor & employment law, Rosemary regularly advised clients on Fair Housing and ADA issues and hospitality industry matters. She served for many years as Labor & Employment Counsel to the American Resort Development Association (ARDA), the timeshare trade association, and was recognized as ARDA’s Volunteer of the Year. She retired in 2019 and filled her days with adventurous travels to China, Africa, Canada, Alaska, the Galapagos Islands, Peru, Italy, and more, and she loved exploring Florida highlights and new venues for jazz music, flute performances by Nestor Torres, numerous plays and musicals, and multiple trips to Gatorland and bird sanctuaries. Rosemary adored time spent with family and a wide circle of friends and loved to share meals at a wide range of restaurants and obscure new locales. Her signature restaurant was La Cantina, where the evening wasn’t complete without an order of garlic bread, chocolate cake and a glass (or two) of Macallan 18 scotch with one small ice cube. Rosemary was highly respected and loved by her large circle of family, friends, colleagues, patrons of the arts and individuals who were never a stranger after meeting her once. Rosemary was extremely generous in the giving of her time, financial resources, and service on various boards and in support of countless philanthropic and charitable causes, as well as education and funding for students and artists. She will always be remembered for her incredible humor and wit, challenging and heated debates on every subject imaginable, her flair for style, fashion and colorful accessories, jewelry and sunglasses, her tireless advocacy for women’s rights and her love for all animals. The countless ways Rosemary touched the lives of so many will leave a lasting and indelible impression on those who had the privilege to know her. Go in peace, dear friend, and know that you were fully appreciated and loved. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 26, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at The Country Club of Orlando, 1601 Country Club Drive, Orlando. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be made to support the American Association of Cancer Research.
