Bob was born on February 29, 1928, Bayside, Queens, NY. His parents Thomas J Regan and Catherine Gilligan Regan of Jersey City, N J. He was preceded in death by Norma Marie Allen Regan, his loving wife of 53 years. Brothers: Thomas of Connecticut, Kenneth of Massapequa, New York, Lawrence (Larry) Wantagh, NY; His dear sisters: Joan of Virginia and Gail of Cairo, NY. His sister Joan was a "pioneer" for women, working in Bellevue Hospital ER, in NYC. Gail preceded Bob's death in Upstate NY after a short illness with Covid-19.
His family was a tight knit stereotypical Irish Catholic family. Four of his brothers served on NYC
Police Department with him and after him. He wanted to announce his passing as"Be Happy I am going to join my dear loving Norma"! Robert served in the Army in post-war Germany and fought in the infantry in the Korean War receiving 2 Purple Hearts. Bob was to receive the Silver Star for Valor during the Korean War - but declined it since they refused to give the same to his buddy who fought beside him.
Robert was a retired NYC Policeman and a member of Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster, The Disabled American Veterans Association, NYC Police Dept. Honor Legion, Knights of Columbus 3rd degree - Chapter 2112, Elks Club # 1830, NYCPD 10-13 Club, Sts. Peter & Paul Men's Club and Eucharist Minister.
He lived his last several years (2018) at Renaissance Tampa, in the Memory Care Facility where
he was known to greet everyone with a cheerful "Good morning!" and a smile. The staff there
were beyond good and caring to him and will always be in our thoughts and prayers.
He is survived by his sister Katherine of Bayside Queens, NY, our matriarch and our loving confidant, and his youngest brother Patrick, retired NYC policeman, from Massapequa, NY. His loving daughters: Norine Regan Groscurth (Rusty) Ellyn Regan Coalter (Brad) Linda Regan Hawhurst (Michael). Grandchildren: Russell, Robert, Caitlin, Regan Marie, Jennifer, Gillian, and great-grandson Deacon.
