Myra A. Rosen

Myra Rosen was born in Jacksonville Florida on December 14th 1922. She was the daughter of Phillip Rubin from Romania and Etta Ossinsky from Jacksonville. She had an elder sister Estelle. The family moved to Crystal River for several years. then settled in Daytona Beach. She graduated from Seabreeze High School and then took off to Tallahassee where she attended Florida State College for Women; which would later become FSU.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts she began a foray into teaching but having always had a love of entertainment found she was drawn to be a thespian. She began acting at The Daytona Beach Little Theatre and segued into singing and performing for soldiers at B'nai B'rith drop ins. This is where she met the love of her life - Bill Rosen. He had moved down from New Jersey to "defend the beaches of Daytona."

Their courtship lasted nine years with Myra moving to New York where she worked at 30 Rock for NBC and Bill moving back to New Jersey to be in closer proximity to her. After several rough years in New York and with Bill pursuing her so fervently she happily acquiesced when he proposed. The two moved back to Daytona Beach where they eventually married - then back to New Jersey to be with Bill and his family.

After a few years, the cold drove them yet again, back down to Florida where they would live out their lives in the tropics. Myra, who had always been a career gal, took a job in College Park with a small publishing company known as Advance Distributors. She spent over 40 years employed by them; beginning as a secretary, then finally Corporate Secretary and Comptroller.

Myra and Bill enjoyed the arts and with a little seed money they and another couple created "Celebrity Series." It was a much beloved but short lived production company that leased out the Orlando Municipal Auditorium for significantly recognizable touring acts. Diverse guests such as Edward Villella, Maurice Chevalier, Roberta Peters and Anthony Newly, just to name a few graced that stage for Orlando residents in the mid 1960's.

In the late 1950's once they had settled in to the then quiet town of Orlando they discovered that they had produced a child. They wanted a boy or a girl but they got a "Meems." Undaunted by the fact that they had this infant they somehow were able to embark on the task of making friends. Many of these friendships would last for 50 + years. Myra was soon introduced to Maj Jong and poker from her new found lady friends. These gals with whom she played, each and every week remained in those same games literally for decades to come. She loved all music, the theatre and spending time with Bill and other couples at the beach. She also would kill for a game of Scrabble. After her retirement, poolside at the home in which she and Bill lived was the most enjoyable time of her life. Entertaining friends at the pool, for her - was bliss.

After her beloved Bill passed in 1998, she moved into Maitland Grande Reserve where she resided for ten years. In 2011 after going to battle in her car with an unrelenting mailbox, it was decided that the safest and most loving place she could be was in the home of her daughter Miriam and "son" Roger and her grand dog Gunther. During those years the four of them would share many happy, thought provoking and sometimes bizarre experiences. She was blessed with 91 full years of life and love and is more than likely taking Bill to task on that big dance floor in heaven.

A Celebration of Myra’s Life will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2014 from 4:00 – 5:30 PM in the chapel of Baldwin Fairchild Funeral Home, Lake Ivanhoe 301 NE Ivanhoe Blvd. Orlando, FL.
