Mary Anne Carrick was the most wonderful wife and mother. Not a day went by without talking to her daughter, Susan Varnadoe.
The family lived in Doyle, Tennessee. Mary Anne was 1 and her beloved brother Joe Stewart was two when their father died. Her mother Ruth was only 19 years old. It was the depression and her mother worked at the shirt factory in town to support her family.
After graduating from Baxter Seminary she moved to Nashville. She met my father while he was paying a bill where she worked. She married Robert Carrick in 1953. He was just out of the Army. Their daughter Susan was born in 1954. After learning the insurance business from his sister Marie Snow in Brooksville, he moved the family to Orlando.
My father introduced her to Bill Plank and she became his bookkeeper at the Winter Park Rexall. Later Bill bought the Maitland Rexall. Later they became partners in buying the Royal Plaza Shopping center.. They also opened a gift shop called the Corners where Bill's wife Barbara enjoyed working.
