John T. Bluhm, Jr., age 90, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2022, in Orlando, Florida. A loving husband, father, and brother, he is survived by his wife of 66 years, Ann Bluhm (Steele), daughters Laura Bluhm and Julia Bluhm Kates (Patrick), granddaughter Lillian Bluhm Kates, and sister Viola Wolf (James). He was the beloved "big brother" of Elaine Rosa (Steele), Elizabeth Perry (Steele), and the late Margaret Meyer (Steele). He also leaves several nieces, nephews, and their families.
John was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 10, 1932, to John T. Bluhm, Sr. and Aurelia Bluhm (Winkler). He served as a Combat Medic on the Fifth Regimental Combat Team and was awarded a Purple Heart after being one of the last people wounded in the Korean War as the armistice to end the war was being signed. After his service he became a tool and die maker for the Fisher Body Division of General Motors. He retired as a Master Craftsman after 40 years with GM.
Upon retirement, John and Ann followed their lifelong dream of traveling. They spent five years traveling North America in their Airstream before settling in Florida. His generous heart extended to the community, including logging thousands of volunteer hours leading and driving for the courtesy carts team at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Florida.
One of John's other loves was racing. If it moved, he raced it - stock cars, motorcycles, canoes, kayaks, bicycles, radio controlled sailboats, cross-country skis, and even garden tractors.
He will be remembered fondly by everyone that shared a laughter-filled adventure with him. His kindness, gentle nature, playfulness, sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to his wife and family, will be deeply missed.
