Elizabeth “Beth” Walker Rohrer, loving mother, grandmother and long time Orlando resident passed away on October 18, 2018 following a long, productive and happy life. Born in Leesburg, FL, on February 22, 1940, where she spent most of her childhood with the exception of a few years in Tennessee. Beth was very active at the First Baptist Church of Leesburg and graduated from Leesburg High School. She attended the Florida State University where she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. She married Charles G. Rohrer, her predeceased husband of 27 years. She is survived by her daughters, Jennifer (Martin) Timko and Amy (John) Erisman, along with her six beloved grandchildren, and her brothers, Joseph Walker and James (Terri) Walker. She was preceded in death by her sister, V. Karen Walker, sister-in-law, Ouida Walker and her parents, Miriam and James Walker.
Beth enjoyed a long career in education as a part of the Orange County Public Schools family. After 17 years as a music teacher at Brookshire Elementary School, she became a Curriculum Resource Teacher there. Following the completion of her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Florida, Beth served as the principal of both Fern Creek Elementary School and Dillard Street Elementary School. The culmination of her career was opening Frangus Elementary School and serving as its first principal.
Following her retirement in 1994, Beth was able to devote time to many things she loved. She was a passionate quilter, creating works of art that both touched many families and inspired when displayed at the Orlando Museum of Art and other venues. Her love of music since childhood led her to join the St. Michael’s Episcopal Church choir, which brought her great joy. She volunteered heavily with the church and loved her time on the Alter Guild. She was most recently involved in St. Michael’s Feed My Lambs program, providing food to Edgewater High School and Lake Silver School communities, a legacy she learned from her mother.
Memorial services will be conducted on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 2499 N. Westmoreland Drive, Orlando, FL 32804. A choral prelude will begin at 6p followed by the service starting at 6:30p.
Beth was dedicated to the education and well-being of children and to the music that brought her a lifetime of joy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to either the St. Michael’s Episcopal Church Choir or the Edgewater High School Chorus.
