Van Arsdale, Dorothy Thayer, 94, of Winter Park, Fl. passed away peacefully at The Mayflower Retirement Community on October 7. Dorothy, born in Malden, Mass., graduated from Simmons College with a business degree. Her career led her to Washington, DC where she became Chief of the Smithsonian Institution’s Traveling Exhibition Service. She traveled the world for the Smithsonian, and in 1971 was knighted by the King of Denmark for her service to that country. She then moved to Florida and started Van Arsdale Associates, a nonprofit service which circulated art exhibitions to colleges and universities. She also loved working and volunteering at the Maitland Art Center for many years. Dorothy will be remembered for making other people laugh, her youthful attitude, and her love for life. She is survived by her three children: Howard (Ellen) Pritham, Merrill Pritham and her husband, Richard Gibson, and Stuart (Barbara) Van Arsdale; and eleven grandchildren: David, Greg, Ellen Jean, Nicole, Christina, Sasha, Sarah, Stephen, Elizabeth, Allie, and Angie; and 8 great-grandchildren.
