COOPER, BARBARA A., was born and grew up in Lynn, MA. She was an honors graduate from Lynn High School and went on to nursing school at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She graduated in 1943 and became a registered nurse. She served as a first LT in the Army Nursing Corps in WWII. She was stationed in the Philippines from 1945-1946, where she met and later married her husband, Jack. She received three medals for her service. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack, and is survived by one sister, Jane Russell of Naples, FL. She is also survived by four children, David Cooper (wife Margo) of Winter Park, FL, Margie Cooper of West Palm Beach, FL, Herb Cooper (wife Joan) of Columbia, SC, and Libby Meiners (husband Joe) of Charlotte, NC, her nine loving grandchildren, of whom she was so proud, and her loving friend, Cindy Koppenhaver. She was an accomplished tennis player and golfer. She also enjoyed fishing and playing cards. But her real passion was tennis. Barbara was a long-time member of the Winter Park Racquet Club, where she founded (and ran for 35 years) the Children’s Round Robin, and where she was much loved. She was also a founding member of the Central Florida Tennis Confederation, Vintage Tennis, and served on the Board of Directors of the Florida Lawn Tennis Association. She received many tennis honors, including Umpire Emeritus from the USTA and a lifetime service award from the City of Winter Park. Above all, Barbara loved people. Barbara Cooper passed away on March 10 at age 87. Funeral Services will be held at 2 on March 14, 2010 at Carey Hand Cox-Parker Funeral Home, 1350 W. Fairbanks Ave., Winter Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to either UCF Women’s Tennis (PO Box 163555, Orlando, FL 32816) or the National Senior Women’s Tennis Association (PO Box 7115, W. Palm Beach, FL 33405).
