June Touchton Haigler, 95
of Winter Haven, Florida
passed away peacefully in
her home on Monday,
August 11, 2014. A native
Floridian born in Winter
Haven on June 7, 1919 was
the daughter of William
Jefferson and Jimmie Ray
Touchton. She is precede in
death by her husband,
Steven Vincent Haigler, Jr.
Attending school in
Win t e r Ha v e n J u n e
graduated from Winter
Haven High School in 1937.
She graduated from Florida
S o u t h e r n C o l l e g e ,
Lakeland, FL in 1941 with
a BS in Education. On
August 16, 1941 at the
Central Avenue Baptist
Church in Winter Haven
she married her college
sweetheart Steven Vincent
Haigler, Jr. In 1942, June
taught Home Economics in
Green Cove Springs, FL for
a y e a r whi l e Vinc ent
completed basic training in
the US Army and Officers
Candidate School in 1943.
Joining Vincent in
Nashville, TN during World
War 11 began her next 32
years as a military wife.
Their life together covered
3 w a r s , 2 o v e r s e a s
assignments and 29 house
keys. Returning to Florida
in 1975 to enjoy retirement
which included golf, sailing,
genealogy and plenty of
traveling.
June an accomplished
artist in various mediums
winning numerous awards,
most recently at 94 years
old. Her favorite artist was
Andrew Wyeth and she
loved painting landscapes
from her many travels. As
an avid genealogist, June
was a member of The
National Society Magna
Carta Dames, Daughters of
the Colonist 1607-1776,
Nat ional Soc i e ty of
D a u g h t e r s o f 1 8 1 2 ,
Daughters of the American
Revolution, The Daughters
of the Confederacy, in
which she supported and
held many offices over the
years. Also she was a
member of The Ridge Art
Association, Anchorage Art
Guild, Women’s Club of
Winter Haven, Friends of
the Library, Bridge Club St
John’s Methodist Church,
Order of the Eastern Star
and the Military Officers
Wife’s Club. Playing golf,
reading, knitting, music
and of course collecting
antique ink wells and dolls.
June was an active
member of St. John’s
Methodist Church.
Survivors include her
daughter Joanne (Godwin),
Steve and Chuck Haigler, 5
grandchildren, 2 great
g r a n d d a u g h t e r, h e r
brother Dewey Touchton as
well as many grieving
f a m i l y members and
friends. The family was
with her to celebrate her
95th birthday in June.
All of her family and
friends are invited to join
together for a Celebration
of Life in the St. John’s
Methodist Church Chapel
on Saturday, August 23rd
at 2:30pm.
Inurnment will be at the
Florida National Cemetery
in Bushnell, FL.
In lieu of flowers a
memorial donation may be
made to The Ridge Art
Association, Winter Haven,
FL.
