She went home to Jesus due to pancreatic cancer. She loved others beautifully and was loved by many. She was an example of selflessness, forgiveness, and a giving heart. She will be deeply missed by all the lives she touched.
Sally was born in Dayton, Ohio to Mona and JF (Buzz) Helmerich, who were also believers in Christ.
Surviving are her three children Melissa (Mike), Chris (Kathy), Amy (Marty): 8 grandchildren Josh, Zach (Kennedy), Emily, Caroline, Isaiah, Laura, Savannah, and Lydia, two brothers and a sister: Mick
(Mary), Mary, and Frank (Sarah). Sally was preceded in death by her Mom and Dad.
She graduated from Ft Myers High in 1964, and attended USF, before transferring to Eastern Washington State College and graduating with a degree in elementary education where she met and
married Ron Hart, on July 29, 1969. They were married 21 years before he left her and they divorced.
She was an elementary teacher for a total of 26 years. This includes her years teaching overseas, a
Montessori private school, in the public school system for many many years and at a DOD (Department of Defense) school. She was also a director of a church daycare and VBS leader. She truly loved teaching. She would say “Teaching was very hard, but I prayed for all of my children every night that they would stay well and be safe and know the love of Jesus.” Her favorite things to do were going to the beach and to read romantic history novels, go ‘treasure hunting” at thrift stores and garage sales. Towards the end, she could not see even with her massive magnifying glass to read. She loved it when Frank read the words from the book Jesus is Calling. She loved singing worship songs. She picked out every song to go along with the slide show and to sing at her memorial service. She put a lot of effort into planning her service with her loved ones in mind. She helped write this obituary and wants everyone to know “Jesus loves me this I know”. A song she use to sing to her 3 children.
She was a loving mom to those three children, Melissa, Chris, and Amy and eight grandchildren, Joshua, Emily, Zachary, Isaiah, Caroline, Laura, Savannah, and Lydia. She says, “my children and grandchildren mean the world to me. I knew they were a gift from God. I have 8 grandchildren that I hold dear to my heart. Two those I don’t know personally and still have loved them dearly. I pray for the best life that God gives them. That they walk in His path and feel His love. My love will be with them always and forever.
Sally had many favorite scriptures and when asked she said, “My most very very favorite scripture is hard to decide, but I would have to say John 3:16. For God so loved the world that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. And another one is Philippians 4;13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” When Sally went home to meet Jesus her shirt said, peace on earth. And had the verse Luke 2:14 "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests". *This is the scripture that Angel armies were praising God upon Jesus’ birth. Sally, Mom, Gumby says, “I love you all very much. My prayer is to see everyone in Heaven".
