Lawrence Eugene Sanders, 89, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, August 8, 2022, at Vero Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Sylva, NC. He was a native of Winter Garden, Florida with a mountain home in the Beech Creek Community of Robbinsville, NC for the past 12 years.
He was born in Orange County, Florida, the 8th child to the late Richard and Henrietta Williams Sanders.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson Robby Sanders, five brothers, and four sisters.
Lawrence was a Veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Korean War Era. He was a dedicated serviceman who quickly rose in rank and became the youngest Staff Sargent at the age of 19. He served as an Engine and Instrument Instructor.
He was also a Deacon and founding member of Calvary Baptist Church in Winter Garden, Florida. His faith and love for the Lord were apparent in every aspect of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Maxine Clark Sanders, sons and their wives, Michael (Susan) Sanders of Deland, FL, Doug (Angie) Sanders of Avalon, FL, Danny (Susan) Sanders of Anthony, FL, Alan (Jenny) Sanders of Kinston, AL, Keith Sanders of Winter Garden, FL, Jason (Hope) Sanders of Robbinsville, NC; sister, Lorene Jones of Cairo, GA, 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at the Baldwin-Fairchild Chapel in Winter Garden. All are welcome to attend the services with visitation at 1:00 pm and services at 2:00 pm in the Chapel. Pastor Lemp (retired) and Pastor Klapperich of Calvary Baptist Church will officiate the services. Burial will take place in the Winter Garden Cemetery, Winter Garden, Florida with a graveside service.
