John Kenneth Stagg Jr., 85, of Montverde, FL, went home to the Lord on November 4, 2023. He was born in Fairfield, AL, on February 14, 1938, to Evangeline Remington and John Stagg. Ken is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Martha Stagg; his four sons and their wives, Brent & Pam, Randal & Shari, Todd & Milissa, and Scott & Lesly; and grandchildren, Taylor, Brooke, Dana, Kimberly, Hunter, Victoria & Griffin; his brother, Jim Stagg, and sister, Lucille Norrell.
Ken was born and raised in Alabama and moved to Winter Garden in 1959. A year later, he joined the Coast Guard Reserve and proudly served for 8 years. He started his 40-year career at Martin Marietta during which he met the love of his life, Martha. The two were married June 23rd, 1962. Ken and Martha started their family shortly after. They had 5 boys, one of which who was called to heaven at birth. They raised their family in Winter Garden, then were blessed with the opportunity to spend 2 years in Germany for Martin Marietta from 1980-1982. During this time, Ken worked on the Persian Missel Program and traveled to several European countries, learning history, and making lifelong friends.
The family continued to thrive, as the boys grew and started their own families, Ken and Martha were blessed with 5 granddaughters and 2 grandsons. He gave them a childhood full of adventures including, trips to Jetty Park, zoos, Cypress Gardens, and countless others. He never missed an award ceremony, birthday, sporting events or graduation. When Ken retired from Martin Marietta in 1999, he devoted his life to his family and spoiling his grandkids. After buying a cabin in North Carolina, every summer and winter was spent making memories including snow sledding, white water rafting, Scoop’s ice cream shop, Deep Creek, and appreciating the calm scenery.
Ken was the ultimate jack of all trades, there was nothing he couldn’t fix. He had the mind of a mechanic and engineer and the ingenuity of Inspector Gadget. He was always willing to teach and share his knowledge. Ken was known for his countless generosity and his ability to embrace others without judgement. His dedication to helping others remains an inspiration to all who knew him. He was able to form a friendship and connection with almost everyone he met.
Ken and Martha lived a lifetime full of faith and love for God. Because of this, his children and grandchildren have found a meaningful relationship with Christ. Ken and Martha were active members of Calvary Baptist Church and formed lifelong relationships there. His legacy of selflessness and unwavering faith will continue through to future generations.
A visitation for John will be held Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Calvary Baptist Church, 631 S Dillard St, Winter Garden, Florida. A funeral service will occur Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 631 S Dillard St, Winter Garden, Florida. A committal service will occur Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Winter Garden Cemetery, 13636 Lake Butler Blvd, Winter Garden, Florida.
