Winston-Salem, NC – Mr. Thomas Judson Clary, Sr., 70, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, from complications related to congestive heart failure. He was born on September 7, 1954, in Forsyth County to the late Wilburn Columbus Clary and Velma Jean (Wilkerson) Clary.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Jo Allison Clary Smith, his nephew, Christopher Blake Smith, and his sister-in-law Kathy (Reagan) Harrold.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Karen (Reagan) Clary, as well as his children Allison Clary of Winston-Salem, NC, Megan (Arturo) Martinez of Hickory, NC, and Thomas Judson Clary, Jr. of Mocksville, NC, sister Wilba Jean Hussey of Indian Wells, CA, brother Wilburn Columbus Clary II (Linda) of Winston-Salem, NC, sister-in-law Kelly Reagan of Duluth, GA, and brother-in-law Jim (Cynthia) Reagan of Chattanooga, TN. He is survived by five grandchildren, Dalton James Cox, Emma Marie Martinez, Peyton Arturo Martinez, Luke Ornan Martinez, and Eliana Lourdes Martinez.
Thomas, known as “Jud”, was owner of Sportsman’s Supply Company, a family sporting goods business started by his father, the late Wilburn Columbus Clary. He was a graduate of RJ Reynolds High School, graduated from Wingate College, and attended Wake Forest University. He was a volunteer board member with Jefferson Day School where he served countless hours assisting staff and students. He was a former collegiate tennis player who won local and state championships. He loved sports, fishing, hiking, the beach, spending time in nature, his dogs, and spending time with family. He devoted the final years of his life to caring for his wife and family.
The family would like to thank the hospital staff and medical team of the 10th floor of Ardmore Tower at Atrium Health Hospital and Trellis Supportive Care Hospice, who cared for Jud in his final weeks of life. A special thank you to family and friends who have supported Jud and family during this difficult time.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024 at 3pm in the Chapel of Vogler Funeral and Cremations @ Forsyth Memorial Park, 3815 Yadkinville Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27106. Memorials can be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Ln. Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
