Bob was born in Winston-Salem to the late Ruth Hill and James Harris Fitzgerald. He spent most of his life in NC and graduated from Reynolds High School.
From there he attended Wingate University, Wake Forest University, served in the National Guard, and graduated from High Point University with a degree in Business and Accounting. Bob followed his father’s path to work for RJ Reynolds tobacco company. He made close friends there throughout his career, many while leading financial services for Sports Marketing. He spent volunteer hours working for the United Way.
Bob spent over 15 years coaching his sons youth sports, including football, basketball, and baseball at North Forsyth Little League. He enjoyed working with so many great young people and leveraged sports to teach life lessons cleverly intertwined with his demand for 100% grit and hustle. For the last 19 years, his favorite pastime had evolved from playing golf to being a “GrandBob” - always with a funny story to share with his 4 grandchildren that he loved so very much.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Harris Fitzgerald.
Most notably - he was preceded in death by the absolute love of his life, his wife Lana. He missed her and spoke of her daily, waiting 14 years to hold her hand again.
Bob is survived by his two sons: Jason Fitzgerald (Kristen) and their sons, Hudson and Sawyer;
Vance Fitzgerald (fiancée Elissa) and his son and daughter Jake and Chase.
