Born on May 1, 1948 in Port Washington, New York, he was the son of late Raymond Francis and Margaret 'Peg' Mary Plunkett.
Ray was an avid craftsman, boating enthusiast, and skilled hardware salesman. He proudly served his country Honorably in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War, awarded both a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Above all, Ray will be remembered as a fun-loving man who loved spending time with those he loved the most, especially his grandchildren.
Ray is survived by his daughter, Melissa Crawford (Plunkett), her husband Jacob, and their two children, Mason and Millie Crawford who lovingly referred to Ray as "Pops.”; his son, Jack Plunkett (Lyssa) of Port Washington, NY, and their two children, Molly and Ryleigh Plunkett; his former wife and best friend, Teresa Cashion of Winston-Salem as well as his step-son Taylor Marion and wife, Morgan of Lancaster, PA.; two sisters, Carol Salerno (Tom), Diane Flaherty (Rick) and one brother, Bill Plunkett (Nancy); along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Ray will be immensely missed by numerous family members, work colleagues, and lifelong friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Novant Medical Center for the diligent and compassionate care they administered to Ray and his family during his stay.
In keeping with his wishes there will be no formal funeral services. A private celebration of his life will be held a later date.
