Janet Lee Pope Evans

Janet Lee Pope Evans went to be with her Lord on Tuesday morning, November 8, 2011. Janet was born on June 15, 1936 to Allen and Elsie Pope. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Victor Pope, and sister, Phyllis Gibson. She graduated from Appalachian State Teachers’ College and had a career teaching where she taught grades kindergarten through 5th in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School system. She was totally dedicated to her students. Janet committed her life to Jesus Christ at an early age. Upon retirement, she and her husband shared the gospel across the US and around the world to include Brazil, China, Kenya, and Australia. Janet also worked with the North American Mission Board and helped develop evangelistic material for children. She was a very active member of First Baptist Church of Stanleyville, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and participated in Women’s Missionary Union. Janet was totally committed to her Lord and Savior and to her family. She read and studied her Bible and prayed daily. She has many favorite Bible verses. One of her favorite was Proverbs 16:3, “Commit thy works to the Lord and thy thoughts will be established”. Janet is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ed Evans, and daughter, Virginia Roberson and husband, Reverend Steve Roberson; son, Reverend Eddie Evans and his wife Samantha Evans; grandchildren Melissa and husband Andrew Felton, Jana and husband Neil Woodcock, Zachary and Luke Roberson, and Anna and Alayna Evans; nieces, Ashley and Lauren Gibson. Family visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Stanleyville, on Ziglar Road, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Family Life Center on Thursday, November 10th. The funeral service will be held in the sanctuary at First Baptist Church of Stanleyville at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 11th. with Pastor Eddie Honeycutt officiating.
