Charles Harold Talbert died peacefully at his residence in Winston-Salem, N. C. on November 21, 2021. He was 87. Dr. Talbert was a Baptist minister and Biblical scholar. He was a graduate of Howard College (now Samford University) and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He held the Ph.D. degree from Vanderbilt University and taught New Testament at Wake Forest University and at Baylor University, where he was named Distinguish Professor of Religion in 1996. He and his wife, Dr. Betty Weaver Talbert, were retired and lived in Winston-Salem, N. C.
Dr. Talbert published extensively on the New Testament and edited a series of commentaries called Reading the New Testament. He was in demand as a preacher and lecturer and served as an officer in various scholarly societies. He studied and taught in Germany, in Venice and Rome, Italy, and in London, England and traveled to Biblical sites in Israel, Greece, and Turkey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Audrey Talbert. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Betty Weaver Talbert, two children, Richard Talbert (Amanda) of Winston-Salem, NC and Caroline Talbert of Valencia, CA, and two grandchildren, Emily Beroth and Rachel Beroth.
There will be a memorial service Saturday, January 29th at noon at Vogler Funeral & Cremations.
