September 19, 1926 - October 29, 2021
Peacefully, and with family at her side, Shirley passed away on October 29, 2021 at the age of 95. She is survived by her sons Glenn, Brent (Marie), Shawn (Patricia) and her daughter Darcia Albrechtsen (Robert) and her grandchildren Corinna, Warren (Amy), Andrew, Riley, Jonathan, Amy, Jaida and Anika and great-grandchildren Payton and Henri.
She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Barrie, by her parents Connie and Stan Fairclough, brother Glenn, daughter-in-law Karen and lifelong friends Peggy Wallace and Shirley Wharton.
Shirley worked at the Grain Exchange and then the CPR before retiring to raise her family. She lived by example and was a wonderful role model. She was always willing and able to lend a hand to someone in need. She volunteered at Children's Hospital for 5 years and then turned her attention to Cancer Care Manitoba where she volunteered for over 40 years. She was recognized by the Governor General of Canada for this service. Shirley was a woman of faith and shared her time and talent for over 60 years with Grey Street United Church. She taught Sunday School, played the piano, acted at dinner theaters, was a member of the choir and the UCW, and sang with Sisters of the Holy Rock. She loved animals and our home was never without a pet(s) growing up. Shirley also loved the lake (Malachi) where she made many lifelong friendships over the past 51 years.
A private service will be held for family followed by a Celebration of Life later when health regulations permit a larger gathering. The family would like to thank Dr. Gergis and the staff in Urgent Care and 3 West at Concordia Hospital for their compassion and care that they provided throughout Shirley's final journey.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of Shirley Poole to Cancer Care Manitoba, Grey Street United Church, or an animal shelter of your choice.
Heaven is no longer missing an angel.
