Patrick Rideout passed away peacefully on June 3, 2023, at the age of 48. He left this world enjoying some quiet time beside his beloved Harley, maybe listening to some rock music and pondering plans for a water fountain for Adrienne’s garden.
Memories of Patrick…where do we even begin?
He had a lifelong love affair with Star Wars, music played on vinyl was always on his agenda, and perfecting his ninja skills on Adrienne and Caleigh when they least expected it.
He was never one for grandiosity, but he’d quietly pay the tab at dinner while the rest of the table was fighting about who got to pay, or he’d pick up the bill for someone he didn’t know. He always had the time for someone who needed to talk.
In high school, his friends knew they were always welcome at the Rideout home, and there was always an extra kid or two couch surfing, watching movies, and ordering pizza.
Hanging out with his grandpa Les, the summer he became a big brother was instrumental in his future career path. Les was renovating the old Adviser Publications building downtown, and Patrick intently started learning everything about that building from the inside out. He first fell in love with cranes and later with the entire building process.
His love of building things from the ground up carried with him into adulthood where he began a career in construction. He worked tirelessly on construction sites across Canada, making sure everyone went home safely at the end of every day. He was an expert in his field. His dedication at PCL Construction paid off and recently he got a well-deserved promotion to HSE Manager.
While Patrick was passionate about others’ safety, he wasn’t too concerned about it for himself. As a child, he thought that, like Spider-Man, he could scale buildings without a safety net–thankfully, he was small enough that his mom could catch him.
Patrick was a fun-loving, kind, and caring man who enjoyed spending hours on the lake ice fishing or photobombing his friends and loved ones, but his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family. His deepest joy was his daughter Caleigh, who shared his love of music, band shirts, practical joking, and cold water in black coffee. She was the light of his life, and he was immensely proud of her.
Patrick was happiest making his loved ones happy. He’d work tirelessly in the yard because he knew it was Adrienne’s sanctuary and he wanted nothing more than for her to be happy. While on the surface it seemed like Patrick and Adrienne were polar opposites, they deeply loved each other, supported their respective passions, and connected on issues that mattered.
He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by partner Adrienne, daughter Caleigh, mom Sharlene, dad David, sisters Julie (Drew), and Andrea, plus many nieces, nephews, family, friends,co-workers, and neighbors.
“If you want to, you can look for me in the evening sunset or with the earliest spring crocuses or amongst the flitting and fluttering butterflies. You know I’ll be there in one form or another. Of course that will probably comfort some while antagonizing others, but you know me…it’s what I do.” ~ Emily DeBrayda Phillips
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
