Mary Ellen passed away July 16, 2024 at the Grace Hospital.
She was the daughter of Jessie and Eddie Turner of Simpson’s Corner, Nova Scotia. Mom was very proud of her Maritime roots. She especially loved to visit there to see the changing fall leaves.
Mary Ellen was 1 of 4 children born to Jessie and Eddie Turner. She is predeceased by her brothers Byron Turner (Joyce) and Marcel Turner and brother in law Clyde Zwicker. She is survived by her sister, Yvonne Zwicker and sister in law Beulah Turner. She has many more extended family members and friends in Nova Scotia that will miss her.
She was a wonderful mother to her children Michael Angell (Joyce), Tara Angell and Tracy Bosc (Gilles). She was a proud Oma to Dallas (Lea-Ann), Keely (Jeff), Sean (Anne), Patrick (Cynthia) and Kathleen (Emery). She was also a proud grandmother to Matthew and Cassandra. She was also Great Oma to 8 great-grandchildren: Adara, Troy, Nicole, Pierce, Michael, Fiona, Colton and Ryker.
She was married to her life partner Frederick “Wayne” Angell for 44 years. They shared many adventures in both military and civilian life.
Mom taught us to be strong, adventurous, hardworking, independent and to have strong convictions. She always led by example and instilled in us an understanding of self-sacrifice.
In her early years she attended a 1 room schoolhouse. She left school at 16 to start her personal life journey. At 18 she joined the military, to see the world, and graduated at the top of her class.
This is where she met her future husband, Wayne. Their adventures have taken them from coast to coast in Canada and Europe. They finally settled in Manitoba.
In her later years the adventures were closer to home in Manitoba with many road trips (“Whoring and Touring” as mom liked to say) with friends.
Mary Ellen was a devoted tea drinker and an avid gardener. She spent many long hours in her beloved tomato patch.
Mom was a warrior. She battled metastatic breast cancer for 20 years. We would like to thank Dr. P. Harris for her care over those years. She fought a long brave battle with COPD and vision loss but fought on, until the end.
The family would like to thank the Emergency staff at the Grace Hospital for their kindness and care.
A private family viewing and cremation are planned.
Mom’s final adventure will be to travel once again, to Nova Scotia, to see the fall leaves.
