Lorraine was the eldest girl of nine children. She worked hard on the farm helping her mother raise her siblings. One of her chores was to bake bread each morning. She became an excellent cook! A skill which was much appreciated and passed on to her children. She lived on the farm until the age of 14, when she moved to the nearby town of Glenlaucher to go to school. There she lived with her aunt Marion during the week and returned to the farm on the weekends. She was an excellent student and avid reader. She read every book in their small library. After high school she obtained her teaching certificate and her Bachelor of Arts degree.
She taught at Victoria Albert and Greenway schools in Winnipeg. Upon retirement Lorraine again focused on some of her interests, mainly her family. Lorraine generously and lovingly cared for her grandchildren at any opportunity. Her unconditional love was an inspiration to us all. She also loved playing cards and cooking. She hosted many bridge parties and entertained friends and family, hosting many wonderful dinners.
Lorraine embraced her Scottish heritage. She loved dancing and music, especially Scottish. She had a wonderful garden at her bungalow on Borebank Street and loved feeding the birds that made their home there. She continued to play bridge until the age of 87 when her memory failed her. However she still danced and enjoyed life. She will be sadly missed and her memory cherished by those who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace.
