It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lou, after a nearly 3-year battle with cancer. He passed away on Monday, December 18 at the age of 65 at Riverview Health Centre. He was born on January 21, 1958.
Lou was predeceased by his parents Edmond and Clemence Fontaine. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Nancy Fontaine (nee Thomas), his children Tricia Fontaine-Unger (Benny Unger) and Chris Fontaine (Ashley Fontaine) and his grandchildren, Jackson, Layla, Leerick, Talia and Tayla. He also leaves to mourn his brother Roger (Jane), sisters Lucy (Frank) and Yvette (John) along with many nieces and nephews and friends.
Lou loved spending his time at the family home in Dunnottar on Lake Winnipeg where he enjoyed his retirement from CN Rail after 35 years. He loved going for walks and chatting with everyone he came across, especially at the pier. Lou and Nancy celebrated their 45th anniversary this summer. He enjoyed his cars, motorcycles, snowmobiles and could be found outside gardening all summer long. Dad’s heart was always with his cats.
The family would like to thank Dr. Casey Woo for his many years of care and the doctors at Cancer Care who cared for him throughout his battle. We would also like to thank the staff at Riverview Health Centre for his care in his last days.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 27 from 6 – 8 pm at Thomson Funeral Home at 669 Broadway, Winnipeg.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 29 at 11:30 am at Thomson Funeral Home.
In Lieu of flowers, donations in Lou’s memory may be made to Cancer Care or Riverview Health Centre.
