Kevin Howarth passed away September 17, 2021 at the Hospital in St. Pierre- Jolys. He was born in Killarney, Manitoba on September 10, 1932. Kevin had a few different addresses over the years but Anola, Manitoba is where he called home.
Kevin was predeceased by his wife Gail Komadoski just 16 days prior.
Kevin is survived by many family members and wonderful friends whom he called family. Also his beautiful 4 legged companions Libby, Bazinga, Sybil & Ritz. Kevin told many stories of growing up on the farm in Killarney.
Kevin worked with the City of Winnipeg Fire Department from September 16th, 1959 and Retired as District Chief on September 14th, 1997. He often referred to the 38 years of service as his dream job.
Kevin was a lifetime member of the Manitoba Gun Dog Association. He spent 53 years dedicated to the club and obtained numerous achievements. Kevin and NFTCH Carnmoney’s Mister Magoo as well as NFTCH Hal’s Toba of Win-Toba are listed in the MGDA Hall of Fame.
Along with these two National Field Trial Champions, there were Amateur Field Trial Champion titles and Master Hunt Test titles. In 2017 both Kevin and Gail received awards for High Point Informal Field Trial with their dogs Libby and Ritz. It speaks to the team that they were, supporting one another.
The titles alone do not speak to what was given to the dog game by this dynamic duo. There are many handlers and dog teams in the MGDA club today who would not have achieved their own titles and success without the help of both Kevin and Gail and the Win-toba guidance they provided. They provided mentorship, lessons and a sense of family to many.
Kevin had many wonderful memories of the years spent hunting with his friend Mike Bollenback.
Kevin was heartbroken when the love of his life Gail was admitted to Palliative Care and then passed away. This was a very difficult time for him. He was blessed with so many wonderful friends but none more special than Tracy Reynolds, Karen Ritchie, his nephew Kevin Graham and Kyle Cooke who were by his side through it all. Not to mention Kris and Mark Hastie who drove him to many appointments.
We would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and care givers at Centre medico-social De Salaberry District Health Centre in St. Pierre Jolys for the compassionate care they provided our beloved Kevin.
Cremation has taken place and a service will occur at a later date to be determined.
