It is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Jean du Toit at Gimli, Manitoba, Canada, on June 4, 2022. Jean will be mourned by her mother Jean, father Gerrie, sister Nic, and her many friends.
Born and raised near Johannesburg, South Africa, Jean moved to Canada in the 1990s after a stint as an exchange student. For more than two decades, Jean made her mark as a film and television producer, production manager, business affairs expert, industry consultant, and all-around champion of creative people and projects. Her expertise was widely respected, and her industry connections were vast. She had a knack for connecting colleagues, and helping to make productions happen.
Outside of her professional life, Jean was an adventurer and free spirit who was keen on seeking new experiences. She loved to travel the world with intention, embracing different cultures and activities along the way. She was especially passionate about spending summer weekends boating and camping around Lake of the Woods. She also was a dedicated volunteer for various community organizations and with seniors. Jean was a bright light, a positive supporter, a selfless contributor, and a beloved friend.
A Celebration of Jean’s life will be held in Winnipeg on Sunday, July 17, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at 842 Corydon Avenue (Tommy’s Pizzeria) and online at 3:30p.m. (Central Time) at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EXJmwQsPjE
A Memorial Fund is being established by the Manitoba Chapter of the Documentary Organization of Canada (Doc), to collect donations for a legacy award in Jean's name (details TBC).
