We announce the peaceful passing of Jack Parsonage on November 14, 2024 at the age of 97.
He is survived by his second wife Lorraine LaLier. They were married in 2004. This union brought them many years of love and companionship.
Jack was predeceased by his beloved first wife Margaret in 1996. They were married in 1948 and shared a wonderful life together while raising their family of seven children.
Jack is survived by five of their children. Terry (Paula Gardner) of Winnipeg, Robert (Lynn Burns) of Vancouver, Donald (Leslie) of Sydney Australia, Eleanor Black (Rial) of Winnipeg, Anne of Toronto, ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Their eldest son Gregory died in 1985, and their second son Douglas died in 2019.
Jack is also survived by his sister Minnie Haggerty of Delta, B.C., sister-in-law Doris Parsonage of Brandon MB and Lorraine’s son Greg LaLier (Crystal Norman) of Landmark MB.
Jack was predeceased by his sister Jessie Matchett and his three brothers Frank, Harry and Walter.
Jack was born and educated in the Baldur, MB area. He graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and pursued a career in Actuarial Science. He was a fellow of both the Society of Actuaries and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. He was employed at Great-West Life for 38 years. During his career he held many positions primarily in the design and implementation of computer systems and in corporate finance matters. At the time of his retirement in 1988, he was Executive Vice-President, Corporate Finance & Control.
Jack enjoyed golf as a member of the Southwood Golf & Country Club in the 1960’s and later as a member of the St. Charles Country Club. He made many friends on the golf course.
Jack was a keen duplicate bridge player. He was introduced to the game by Margaret who then became his regular bridge partner. Both earned the designation of Life Master American Contract Bridge League.
Jack and Margaret spent many summers enjoying their cottage at Lake of the Woods and their winters in Rancho Mirage, California.
In accordance with Jack’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no service.
